Abstract

Frequent episodes of incivility in our society, combined with a lack of acknowledgement of and care for fellow human beings, have deprived us of the dignity central to our existence. Incivility is embedded in the parts of our society we engage with the most, such as government, business, religion, health care, schools, and workplaces. This paper presents the findings from a study on the presence of workplace incivility in K-12 schools, the perceptions of, the experiences with and the responses to workplace incivility from K-12 teachers. The findings have critical implications for school employees, school organizations, reform efforts and the future of K-12 school employees, in particular instruction and learning practitioners as revealed in the 7 critical concepts.
