Effects of iPad Story Reading and Questioning on Young Children's Literacy Learning

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of iPad story reading and questioning strategy on preschoolers' vocabulary learning and story comprehension. The participants were randomly assigned to one of four conditions: iPad story, iPad story with questions, paper story, and paper story with questions. Each participant had two reading sessions. At the end of the second reading session, children took a target vocabulary test and comprehension test. The results showed a significant main effect for condition on target vocabulary test. The differential effects of iPad story reading and questioning strategy on preschoolers' literacy learning were discussed.
