This study of college access and proximity finds that geography and public transportation access shape local college access for urban residents. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and qualitative observations of a county public transportation system, this paper illustrates and describes how a public transportation system contributes to local college enrollment disparities for Black and Latina/o residents. Furthermore, public transportation becomes a form of control, segregating busing access to local colleges for urban minoritized groups.
