It is important for elementary teacher preparation programs to understand how prospective teachers (PTs) develop self-efficacy for teaching mathematics and how these beliefs relate to practices early in their development; yet, there is currently a gap in the literature The current study addresses this gap by presenting analysis of PTs instructional practices in relation to efficacy levels. Regardless of efficacy levels, PTs in the sample used moderate to high levels of discourse practices and selected tasks with mid to high levels of cognitive demand. Implications for teacher preparation are discussed.
