"We Over Me": Servant and Transformative Leadership at Paul Quinn College

Abstract

The general stereotype of HBCU leadership is that it is often autocratic in nature but this is not always the case. Under the leadership of President Michael Sorrell Paul Quinn College has garnered attention in the HBCU and higher education arenas. Through a case study approach, using lenses of servant and transformational leadership theories this paper will examine President Sorrell’s leadership style and implementation of his “ Four Ls” and “We Over Me” philosophies on Paul Quinn’ campus.
