Coping, Care, and Legitimate Authority in Racial Equity Work

Abstract

This case study investigates emotions and emotionality in racial equity discourse among 10 Black and White university practitioners who participated in an eighteen-month action research process focused on improving equity on their campuses. Findings illustrate, relevant to the conference theme, that Black and White educators hold quite different beliefs about the "arc" of progress towards racial equity.
