Fri, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Swissotel, Floor: Lucerne Level, Lucerne I

Abstract

Educational leaders who are committed to strong academic results for all students must understand their own role in supporting student achievement. Effective school leadership has become a key area of research for educational improvement. This qualitative research focused on the following question of inquiry: How do principals and superintendents believe they influence student performance in schools that have been identified as demonstrating significant achievement in eighth grade reading with diverse student populations? The voices and stories of school leaders are highlighted in the study as they shared their perspectives about why they believed they were eliminating achievement gaps and achieving success in reading.
