Recent demographic changes in the U.S. have brought about a boom in the number of students of color who attend U.S. public schools (45%). In contrast to the rising racial diversity in the student population, however, the teacher pool across the U.S. remains largely White (83%). Male teachers also represent another less visible population of teachers in U.S. public schools (24%). In light of these demographic changes, this paper presents a study that draws from a larger mixed methods study to better understand the impact Project PRIDE, a three-year collaborative between the University of South Florida and the Polk County Public Schools had on male and minority teachers’ development as elementary school teachers in their own community.
