In recent decades, liberatory education projects have yielded exciting results among marginalized youth in underserved schools and communities. However, very little is known about the long-range educational effects of engagement with social justice pedagogies and participation in activist communities. While some qualitative and quantitative analyses have indicated that the combination of culturally relevant curriculum and social justice education promote high school completion and college matriculation, neither qualitative nor quantitative analyses have examined the long-term impacts of such curricula and the political consciousness that they may spark. This article explores the long-term reciprocal relationship of activism and education for six young Chican@ activists who completed university degrees in 2014.
