Quantifying Aspects of the Socialization Process for Black Male Doctoral Students and Measuring Its Influence on Self-Efficacy

Abstract

Analyzing data from 612 respondents to a national survey of Black male graduate students, we use descriptive and multivariate statistics to quantify aspects of the socialization process for doctoral students (e.g., frequency/nature of advisor relations) and its subsequent influence on Black male students' academic self-efficacy. Results have implications for future theory, practice, and research.
