Abstract

If socially interacting with other graduate students and faculty in the department is critical to developing a sense of belonging, what are the socialization experiences of underrepresented doctoral students who have little time for social interactions like? In particular, what are the socialization experiences of part-time Black education doctoral student/mothers? Using interviews and sketch-to-stretch methods, this study seeks to understand if participants have developed a sense of belonging and if so, by what means have they been able to do so.
