Abstract

Reflected in our methodological commitments across the many activities of this longitudinal project, we have been interested in fundamental questions about culture, human learning, and development and have explicitly focused on what is called a core cognitive domain of human knowing: the natural world. In this presentation we present our research findings about cross-cultural differences in cognitive development about the natural world. Further we identify the implications for these findings in broad theories of human learning. The presentation will highlight new contributions to studies on human learning regarding how mobility and land fundamentally shape human learning and development. This paper details connections to extant research on biological cognition, theories of mind and embodied cognition, and identifies needed future work.
