New Teacher Perceptions of the Hiring Process in an Urban School District

Fri, April 17, 8:15 to 10:15am, Sheraton, Floor: Ballroom Level, Sheraton V

Abstract

The hiring process of an urban district was explored through interviews with former interns who completed their student teaching placements in that urban district. Some of the interns were hired by this district, while others did not apply or were not hired. Items asked of former district interns included their approach to the job search, identification of openings and schools, factors influencing their job placement decisions, and general perceptions about the hiring process. The answers to the research question, (how do former student teachers perceive the new teacher hiring process?), are intended to provide a clearer picture to the urban district of which former student teachers ended up working for the district and how these outcomes transpired.
