This paper considers radical reimaginations of the “social” in order to extend what is meant by social contexts and social justice in education. Across many diverse intellectual traditions, terms like action, agency, matter, material, human, posthuman, and collective are being reconstituted in ways that have implications for educational theory and educational practice. Yet, Indigenous philosophers have always understood place and the non-human world as agentic, as collective, and perhaps even as social. This paper considers possible infusions of Indigenous social political thought (as it connects and intervenes upon ‘new’ continental theories) on the social contexts of education.
