Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
This session will present examples of hidden histories in the Black Experience—the San Francisco Black Heritage Trail, the Mardi Gras Indians, an Alabama Black Belt educator/activist and a nearly lost scribe of ancient Egypt. This cultural heritage is being recovered and preserved through the efforts of both academic and non-academics alike, who will dialogue with historians about the benefits, implications and limitations of such knowledge reconstruction.
