Abstract

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was rightly considered landmark legislation 50 years ago. It remains the major K-12 federal education program in the U.S. Our panel, including two policy experts who have been instrumental in creation and analysis of federal education policy for many years, will assess the program’s accomplishments and shortcomings as a window on the potential role of the federal government in improving education, and will provide recommendations for achieving greater impact.
