Session Type: Symposium
New Orleans has been touted as a national leader in market-based education reform. It is the nation's first all-charter school district and the first to terminate every educator while recruiting new teachers. In this symposium, members of Urban South Grassroots Research Collective draw on experiential knowledge and qualitative research over the past decade to reveal the destructive effects of privatization on African American students, veteran teachers, and historically black neighborhoods.
