Session Type: Roundtable Session
This symposium advances the emerging scholarship of queer of color critique in educational research and curriculum studies. As a critical/post-foundational perspective, queer of color critique foregrounds racialized and sexual minority views in political, sociocultural, and educational experiences. The presenters offer case studies of homophobic violence, queer migration, young adult offenders, and political organizing to employ queer of color critique within and outside of K-12 and post-secondary institutions. As interventions into how diversity is reconceptualized, they engage with the realities of marginalized groups that often exceed the logics and practices of equity and social justice in education. Yet it is in spaces of the beyond where the interruptive power of queer of color subjects wields their sharpest and most transformative critiques.
