Session Type: Symposium
This session brings together internationally known scholars to address the critically important issue of leadership for social justice and educational improvement. As poverty rates persist and grow in the many countries, it is becoming increasingly difficult for students from low-income families to succeed academically. Leadership is second only to teaching as the major in-school contributor to student achievement. However, in recent years, leadership has fallen off the reform radar in favor of efforts to improve teacher quality and evaluation. This session will bring leadership back to center stage in the quest for equity-focused educational change. The presentations will discuss how leadership in a variety of countries and systems can yield positive benefits for improving equity and achievement.
