Session Type: Symposium
Employing the notion of de/sign, five researchers detail their intentional selection of a
theoretical thimble to tailor a qualitative methodology (i.e., the interconnected space
between theory, practice, and ethics) that works against injustice and the suturing over of
pedagogical possibilities in educational settings. Contributors examine the pivotal role of
theory as they pierce, (un)stitch, snag, embroider, patch, and mend the fabrics of their
research contexts, components, and commitments. Attention is given to the enacted and
embodied relationship between research de/sign and theory. Lastly, presentation of the
productions that result from theory-practice tailoring engages key themes (e.g.,
representation/alism, voice, agency, identity) and offers questions for the purpose of
provoking engaged and critical discussion.
