Session Type: Symposium
Our presentations foreground, respectively, (a) a cosmopolitan perspective that can help young people generate ethical values through the ways they conduct themselves, (b) a human rights perspective on “humaneness” and “uniqueness” that can promote a recognition of dignity, (c) a vision of how the teaching of language and literature can constitute in its own right an ethical education, and (d) a cosmopolitan educational framework that pivots around the cultivation of ethical openness and humility. We treat “ethics” as a comprehensive orientation, having to do with how we endeavor to realize, in community with others, our aesthetic, moral, and reflective capacities.
