Session Type: Symposium
This session aims at enhancing research on conceptualizing competencies in vocational education and training (VET) for modelling, developing and measuring competent workplace behavior. As there is growing recognition within competence research for the importance of context, we map out the diversity of antecedences of VET-competencies determined by multiple contexts. The presenters show how authentic tests of VET-competencies measure ecologically validly. By empirical studies the papers demonstrate that individual prerequisites (interest, emotions, career aspirations) as well as organizational and regional factors (like institutional training settings, firm size) are decisive influencing context factors on VET-competencies – going far beyond pure cognitive factors: context matters! These insights provide fruitful hints for further research on VET-competence and its conversion into practice.
