Session Type: Roundtable Session
Research has documented the low levels of educational attainment and high school and college persistence of urban students of color placed at risk. This research points to the critical importance of providing adequate preparation and ongoing supports to help these students succeed in high school and beyond. This session incorporates three papers that examine three Catholic educational programs, including school and mentor programs, that are contributing to increased academic success and educational attainment of urban students of color placed at risk. One paper examines the graduate support process of NativityMiguel middle schools, one addresses the efforts of Jesuit high schools, and the third examines a mentoring program provided by Notre Dame Mission AmeriCorps members.
