49.027 - Advancing Testimonio in Curriculum Theory: Hispanophone-Subaltern-Indigenous Cultural Traditions in International Contexts

Abstract

Presenters in this symposium drive at contributions of Hispanophone-subaltern-indigenous testimonio traditions in Latin America as a means of advancing internationalized teaching, learning, and curriculum in K-16 settings. This session provides an overview of testimonio as deployed both in UnitedStatesian educational research as well as an historical overview of testimonio as internationalized conscientizing tradition. Following the latter direction, presenters in this symposium present new conceptual and empirical research that moves testimonio beyond current understandings in U.S. educational research. Understanding the testimonio tradition as key curricular representation and resource for growing Latino populations in K-16 settings, presenters advance testimonio as key conscientizing tradition for understanding international history of the Americas along with past and present North American imperialism in the hemisphere.
