46.060 - Intercultural Development in Higher Education: Bridging Ideas, Concepts, and Practices

Abstract

This symposium examines what institutions of higher education (IHE) are doing to promote intercultural educational opportunities for their students. We begin by critically investigating teacher education program mission statements and national accreditation standards as a means to examine how intercultural teaching and learning experiences are framed at the institutional level. The session topics then range from international service learning to using Cultural Intelligence (CQ) as a model for intercultural education for preservice teachers, to providing intercultural and international study experiences for undergraduate students. The presentations provide research-based discussions on various intercultural education activities, including alternative practices and mixed method research to gain better understandings of intercultural education and activities across both US and Australian higher education programs.
