Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will share results from four studies examining the role of arts-based pedagogy in teacher education. Presenters will discuss the need for and benefits of using arts-based pedagogy in populations ranging from pre-K to adult learners and the related benefits of including arts-based pedagogy in preservice teacher programs. One study will examine the effect of arts-based instruction on language skills in a Title I preschool, and one study will examine the preparedness and efficacy of drama teachers in relation to their academic training. Two studies will examine the effects of arts-based pedagogy on participants in different multicultural education settings: an Intergroup Dialogue on race and an indigenous cultures summer camp staffed by preservice teachers.
