Abstract

Given the underrepresentation of Latino students in higher education, and the importance of a college degree with regard to future economic and job growth, scholar-practitioners address the role of families, schools, and policy, in shaping the college access and choice opportunities for Latino students. Specifically, across the studies authors employ multi-conceptual and methodological approaches to highlight the complexity of the Latino college choice process as well as contribute new theoretical and empirical understandings of how Latino students engage in this process. Each contributor offers critical practical and policy interventions and implications. The research presented by this panel will be of interest to anyone who is working in the field of Latino education and is charged with improving educational attainment rates.
