Session Type: Symposium
This symposium explores uses of the Mission Skills Assessment (MSA), a battery of measures targeting several social-emotional skills (also known as noncognitive skills) critical for student success. The majority of papers cover studies that make use of collected MSA data to address complex substantive issues, such as the longitudinal relationship between motivation and student outcomes, as well as some methodological issues, such as rating incongruence between student and teacher ratings of student noncognitives. A final paper addresses the critical relationship between research findings and practice by revealing how current MSA schools use their results to affect school-wide curriculum and identify best practices.
