Session Type: Symposium
This symposium brings together the developers of four distinct early childhood teacher education programs to discuss approaches to teacher preparation, the challenges embedded in certain aspects of program implementation (such as authentic field placements), and the critical questions for program evaluation and research. The programs (University of Maryland, Tufts University, Teachers College, and University of Florida) have an emphasis on children with and without special needs, as well as a range of environmental factors identified as risks for successful early school experiences, such as poverty and dual language learning. The discussant will bring her expertise in the areas of early childhood education, developmental science, and professional development of teachers to reflect on the programs and facilitate audience discussion.
