Session Type: Symposium
Despite considerable research in multiple fields on teaching and learning fractions, cross-disciplinary and good-natured conversations are rare. Researchers often speak differently nuanced academic languages, focus on different levels of learning, conduct research in widely different contexts, and perhaps even define “fractions” differently. We bring together psychologists, educational psychologists, mathematics educators, neuroscientists, and learning scientists to share and discuss their research on fractions learning, which include a neurocognitive approach, perceptual training tasks, direct instruction, game design, and teaching experiments. The presenters will share results across their different fields, identify similar research goals, and discuss design strategies across their radically different methodologies.
