Session Type: Symposium
The rapid growth of English Language Learners (ELLs) is requiring school personnel and teacher preparation programs to change in teaching practices; one that fosters culturally relevant and meaningful instruction for ALL students. In order to instill pedagogical practices that meet the academic needs of ELLs this symposium will: (a) provide participants with an understanding of various programs implemented in teacher education courses with the purpose of preparing teacher candidates to meet the academic needs of ELLs in the STEM areas in a culturally relevant manner; (b) share how to design and conceptualize teacher induction programs that are comprehensive and sustainable; and (c) examine the pedagogical practices and classroom activities occurring in bilingual and English as a second language programs.
