Session Type: Symposium
If teachers can help students find relevance with the material, they may be able to promote motivation. However, it is unclear how teachers should do this and for whom it will be most beneficial. This symposium brings together four teams of researchers who have been investigating the effects of utility value interventions in different contexts and through the use of different methods. These researchers are all working with programs of research that carefully examine the mechanisms of utility value interventions, how they should be implemented successfully, and for whom they are most effective. The present research broadens the analysis to include family backgrounds and gender, as well as answering key questions about intervention timing, context, and form of communication.
