Session Type: Symposium
The Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework plays a prominent role in research exploring effective uses of technology in teaching. Within the TPACK framework, “context” has been characterized as an important component of teachers’ knowledge that should be included in studies. Yet, context is frequently missing from researchers’ descriptions of TPACK, and when it is not missing, its meaning is often highly unclear. The objective of this symposium is to advance understanding of the important role of context in the TPACK framework. Researchers will discuss how they address context in their work. The scholarship in this symposium has important implications for future research on effective uses of educational technology and for the roles of context and TPACK in such research.
