Session Type: Symposium
In the context of implementing the Common Core, state and local implementers are buffeted by a variety of internal and external forces. In this symposium we present four papers that examine the role of some of these forces, including external advocacy groups and vendors, and internal networks and capacity building strategies, and how they might interact to facilitate or impede implementation.
Policy, Vendors, and the Common Core State Standards: Emerging Issues and Recommendations - Patricia Burch, University of Southern California; Annalee G. Good, University of Wisconsin - Madison; Andrew LaFave, University of Southern California
The Messaging and Communication Strategies of Common Core Advocacy Organizations - Jonathan A. Supovitz, University of Pennsylvania; Patrick James McGuinn, Drew University
The Common Core, Coherence, and Social Networks - Kathryn Hill, Research Alliance for New York City Schools; Thomas C. Hatch, Teachers College, Columbia University; Rachel Roegman, Purdue University; David Allen, College of Staten Island - CUNY
Mixed Signals: How Concurrent Policies and School Organization Send Conflicting Messages About "Rigor for All" in Common Core Implementation - Emily Hodge, Montclair State University
