Abstract

This symposium brings together new scholars engaging with the philosophy and pedagogy of educational philosopher and social justice theorist Paulo Freire. The scholars explored the life and work of Paulo Freire in a graduate-level seminar entitled, “Paulo Freire: Philosophy and Pedagogy, Critique and Possibilities,” which examined significant tenets of Freire’s philosophical works, the sources and influences of his ideas, the development of critical pedagogy, and various critiques of his philosophy. The scholars offer insights gained from their collaborative learning experience in the seminar, as well as from their independent inquiries into the limits and possibilities of Freire’s philosophy and pedagogy for educational praxis.
