Session Type: Roundtable Session
The purpose for this symposium is to investigate the ways in which spatiality is connected to social justice, and how community-based spaces can serve as sites for critical education. This session seeks to examine how spaces beyond traditional academic settings create opportunities to (re)imagine and restore conceptions of “culture, language, and heritage,” as it relates to pluralistic identities, in ways that are not available in traditional academic settings. The presenters suggest that Community-Based Educational Spaces, Self-Created Literacy Spaces, Decolonial Home Spaces, and Label-Free Linguistic Spaces can help foster new instances of “culture, language, and identity” in the move toward restoration, sustenance, and justice.
