Session Type: Symposium
In Education for Critical Consciousness, Freire (1974/2007) discusses extensively, the praxis of culture circles, which makes use of generative themes presented in the form of visual representations that are then used to initiate critical dialogue (pgs.37-78). Critical consciousness emerges through the coalescence of recognizable visual elements with reflexive narratives. In this session,we use critical consciousness through visual research methodology and alternative reflections of popular culture by exploring record album covers for moments of possible learning and emancipation emanating from the album cover art.
