Session Type: Workshop
This workshop analyzes Loyola University Chicago’s field-based program and its aim to cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships with local educational institutions. Partner institutions, drawn from public schools, cultural institutions, and community organizations, collaborate to more effectively prepare urban teachers, and in the process address common educational concerns. The session begins with an overview of the university’s preparation program followed by a panel examining candidate learning through field-site experiences and a panel investigating the development of institutional relationships in recent historical perspective followed by external discussant. The panelists represent faculty, teacher candidates, and school and community partners. Presenters then facilitate a session with attendees to think through possible applications of the presentations and perspectives on their own work in teacher education.
