26.039 - Professional Development Interventions in Data Use and Their Effects: An International Perspective

Abstract
This session uses examples from the Netherlands, New Zealand, Belgium, South Africa, and the United States to discuss how professional development initiatives support data-based decision making in schools. The first presentation discusses the ‘data team procedure’, a professional development initiative in Netherlands The second presentation focusses on a whole-school intervention, where data use was an integral part of professional development in New Zealand. The third paper focusses on information brokerage activities used in Belgium to enhance the school’s human and social capital. The final paper focusses on use of a cyclic model for data-driven decision making to enhance data use skills of student teachers in the Netherlands. Finally, these initiatives are discussed from a US and South African perspective.
