70.031 - New Materialisms and the Ontologies of Social Context: Critical Inquiry on Equity and Justice in Education

Abstract

This session intends to push a conversation in Division G on critical inquiry and the ways in which "social context" is theorized, conceptualized and researched. In light of scholarship on ontologies and new materialisms (which take seriously the more-than-human relational ontologies), the panel seeks to rethink what constitutes "social context" beyond the traditional place-based or dimensionally flatenned ecological lens. The panelists will question some of the ways in which scholars-researchers (including themselves) have been limited by methodological lenses while discussing conceptual (re)orientations to "social context" and approaches to inquiry that inform their respective work.
