Abstract

Simulation studies are becoming more common in the field of educational research; however, there are misconceptions about the usefulness and appropriateness of these studies. During the Division D Fireside Chat, Tomorrow’s Methodologist: Defining and Demystifying Simulation Studies, panelists will introduce the concept of simulation studies by describing their scholarly work with simulation studies. Panelists will discuss the importance of simulation studies to the field educational research, advantages and disadvantages of conducting simulation studies, and how simulation studies can promote mutually respectful, collaboration among various disciplines and modes of inquiry. Through these discussions, panelists will debunk common misconceptions surrounding simulation studies. This session will challenge panelists and audience members to consider simulation studies within the contexts of diverse kinds of research.
