Abstract

The notion of space is currently at the forefront of education policy discussions as districts, states, and the federal government seeks to remedy spatial issues after Brown around educational access and equity across schools. Moreover, as educators and policymakers seek to address racial and socioeconomic segregation affecting students and families located in different geographic spaces, it is essential that we understand the impact of space on these issues. We ask: How are students impacted by their geographic locations? How are resources differentially distributed based on location? What are the implications of space for educational justice? This session sets out to address and illuminate these critical topics by placing space at the forefront of the discussion in this session.
