63.040 - Listening to Voices From Chicago: Reaffirming Our Commitment to Local Knowledge Through a Joint Session With Community-Based Organizations

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

This session affirms our commitment as an academic community to maintain a dialogic relationship between AERA and the communities that are often the subjects of our research. It provides a forum for attendees to connect directly and purposefully with local groups working with Chicago families and children and to support local knowledge through service. The two organizations participating in this year's session are The Lolita Lebrón Family Learning Center and Kuumba Lynx Organization. The session will start with some background on Chicago's current educational climate and leave ample space for dialogue between the participants.
