The standards developed by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Programs (CAEP) require teacher education programs to demonstrate their graduates are capable of having strong positive effects on student learning. In order to make their case, programs must collect and use the best available evidence. The work to be presented was developed by a task force composed of individuals with expertise and leadership in the measurement of learning and also teacher education policy. The presentation will include strengths and obstacles to the use of value added assessments, classroom observations, and stakeholder surveys. Implications for faculty and administrators, state policymakers, and accreditation reviewers who must make decisions about the effectiveness of programs will be discussed.
