Abstract
This roundtable focuses on the multiple ways in which literacy acts represent, mediate and contribute to children's understandings of themselves and their positions in the world. Individually, these papers highlight the possibilities of alternative ways of conducting literacy research. Collectively, they present expanded and non-normative interpretations of what it means to be literate.
