What do pre-service teachers do and how do they theorize in order to learn to teach? As a novice teacher educator, in this paper I analyze the discursive practices of one pre-service teacher as she engages with her own beliefs, a class of elementary students, and multiple teacher educators in more than one institutional context. Using Bakhtin’s theoretical constructs of discourse and dialogue, I study this elementary pre-service teacher’s practices and articulations to analyze the multiple and sometimes contradictory positions that she takes. I present these moments of contradiction as dialogical possibilities of teacher learning for both the pre-service teacher as well as teacher education pedagogues.
