This study examined Marcia’s ego identity paradigm in Lebanese youth with regard to gender and achievement. Participants were 255 students (18-21 years) selected randomly from two American universities in Lebanon. The Ego Identity Process Questionnaire (EIPQ) was used to identify participants’ identity statuses through measuring their levels of Exploration and Commitment. Students’ cumulative grade point average (GPA) served as achievement data. Results showed that most participants were in Foreclosure (29.41%) followed by Moratorium (29.02%). No significant gender or achievement differences were found across the four identity statuses. This study dispels the myth that marked gender differences exist in identity development in traditional societies.
