Abstract

This presentation aims to identify characteristics, difficulties and coping strategies of PAI women, third degree graduates, who have become faculty members of academic institutions in Israel. More specifically, we attempt to respond to the following questions: (1) What are the characteristics of PAI women who have reached the “Ivory Tower” of academic faculty? (2) Which difficulties do PAI women academics encounter when they attempt to balance their new academic role in academia and their role as homemaker in a traditional patriarchal society? And (3) Does a senior academic role engender change in the PAI woman’s identity and coping strategies?
