Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine what teacher educators say they teach future preschool teachers about children’s language learning and early literacy. Early literacy is a subject field to be balanced between the subject fields of Norwegian language and Pedagogy. The research question is: What do teacher educators in the subjects of Norwegian language and Pedagogy say that they emphasise when teaching teacher students in the field of early literacy?
Data is based on twelve semi-structured individual qualitative interviews with 12 teacher educators in preschool teacher education in Norway. We found in our small-scale study that the teacher educators had quite different perspectives on what to teach future preschool teachers about the subject of children’s language learning
