Mon, April 11, 7:45 to 9:15am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This study was aimed at ascertaining the effectiveness of a university-school district induction program. Specifically, the purpose of the present phase was to examine the impact of the program on the retention of newly hired teachers and to increase teachers’ use of action research. A mixed-methods design of quantitative and qualitative measures was employed. The research questions examined were: (1) To what extent were novice teachers retained in the teaching profession? and, (2) To what extent did participants become teacher researchers in their own classrooms? The results indicated that the program’s unique partnership did positively affect the retention of newly hired teachers and did increase teachers’ use of action research.
